May 24, 2004 – Norwood, MA - Judy George, Chairman and CEO of Domain Home Fashions, a leading retail home furnishings chain, has been named the 2004 recipient of the American Heritage Award by the National Interior Furnishings & Design Division of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). Ms. George is the first woman to be honored with this award. The Industry Awards Presentation and tribute dinner was held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City on May 19, 2004 and was attended by over 400 industry members and ADL supporters. Judy was honored along with Farooq Kathwari of Ethan Allen, who received the Humanitarian Award. Ms. George was recognized as an industry leader who exemplifies the ideals and traditions of the United States and the Anti-Defamation League… Justice, Freedom, Equality and Friendship and for her achievements at Domain having set standards to promote pluralism in the workplace, which others can strive toward in their corporate, employee and personal relationships. Presenting the award to Ms. George was William McGrath, Chairman and CEO of Aga Foodservice Group PLC, makers of the legendary Aga range of Britain, and parent company of Domain since March 2002. Mr. McGrath applauded Judy for her dedication and efforts as a leader in the industry, for her ability to be an inspiration and mentor for women in business, and for her community involvement with charities that support and empower women. He added that in England, the Aga stove is known as ‘the heart of the home’ …and when they were looking to bring their products to the US, they believed Judy’s special qualities could take Aga to the heart of American homes. He also noted that she leads a company where, in all areas, there are female majorities. George has won numerous awards, including Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year 2003, is a best-selling author and motivational speaker, and has appeared on national television and radio shows and in magazines.
