All rugs are made by hand with traditional dying and construction methods. Slight variations in color, texture and finish are normal. They make each item truly unique and should not be considered defects. The following characteristics are normal and should be no cause for return:
- Loose slubs of yarn or fabric. This can occur when a color is changed, a new length of yarn is inserted, or at a seam. Please do not pull the yarn or fabric. Simply cut it with scissors to be even with the surface.
- Variations in color. Yarns and fabrics are often dyed to lend a variegated or striated effect - subtle shade changes within the same color family. This is intentional and lends an appearance of depth and character to the piece.
- Colors of the product do not match the picture on the web. Despite our best efforts, photography and ink printed on paper do not reflect reality 100%. In addition, dye lots vary slightly between production runs of the same style. The important questions to ask yourself when viewing the product in the setting and light conditions it will be used in is: Do I like it and will it work for its intended purpose?
- Odor. Wools, dyes and cleaning agents all have inherent moisture and occasionally environmental conditions disallow adequate "airing" prior to packing and shipping in waterproof containers. With rugs, natural rubber latex is also used in construction to lock-in yarns to the backing. This also requires exposure to air to properly dry. If you experience odor, please lay the rug flat over a rug pad where adequate air circulation can dissipate any odor.
- Shedding. With all new wool, there are loose fibers that naturally shed early in the life of the product. After a week of steady use, you can expect any shedding to decline and the luster of the yarn to shine through. Some other rugs are "finished" by scrubbing in water and detergents to free loose yarns. We prefer to let the natural yarn be.
